Acronis True Image Success Story — Pneudraulics, Inc.

The Situation

PneuDraulics, Inc. has been supplying the aerospace industry with high quality hydraulic system components for over 50 years. PneuDraulics' hydraulic system components are used worldwide on military, commercial and commuter aircraft as well as on helicopters, business jets and spacecraft. Eric Saville and Ray Hunt founded PneuDraulics, Inc. in the mid-fifties when they recognized the need for a high quality supplier of precision hydraulic components for the aerospace Industry.

Following a thoughtful growth process fueled by evolving expertise and an ongoing extension of the product line, PneuDraulics has become a preeminent player in aerospace industry and has earned a reputation as a highly effective, responsive and problem solving organization.

All disciplines, from conceptualization of design and developmental engineering to state of the art manufacturing under rigid quality control standards, are performed in the PneuDraulics facility. The result is a fully integrated operation that produces the highest quality hydraulic components available to the aerospace industry today.

Key Challenges

PneuDraulics was seeking a single backup and restore solution that could backup numerous servers to network drives. The solution needed to be fast, reliable, and not dependent on the operating system to restore a server. Finally, the company was looking for a solution that could restore from a boot CD. Most of the products PneuDraulics evaluated relied on Windows to be up and running for a restore. Acronis True Image Server was selected because of its straightforward interface, easy manageability, fast restore times, and the ability to restore images using a boot CD.

Product Evaluation

PneuDraulics created a pilot to test the software. One server was backed up and restored in a number of different ways. The first test was to backup and restore the server from the Acronis Secure Zone. The restore was quite fast, however, the company wanted to test the product's ability to backup and restore a server from a network-based drive. The server was restored quickly from the network-based drive in just under 12 minutes for 8 GB of data. PneuDraulics was quite impressed with the speed of the restore. The final step was a restore from the network using the Acronis boot CD. This final round of tests worked perfectly and the company moved forward with implementation.

Server Downtime Eliminated During Backup

PneuDraulics has successfully implemented Acronis True Image Server. Currently, 7 servers at Pnuedraulics are using Acronis True Image Server for backup and restoration, representing 80% of the servers in the organization. Each night all servers are backed up to a central storage location using removable SATA drive bays. The drives are then moved off-site for disaster recovery. For quick restoration that does not require pulling images from the offsite storage facility, the backup images are also saved to the Acronis Secure Zone, a special partition hidden from the operating system on the server. The company no longer has downtime associated with the backup process, as servers remain online during backup. Finally, no training of IT staff was required beyond the initial pilot program.

PneuDraulics selected Acronis True Image Server because of its straightforward interface, easy manageability, fast restore times, and the ability to restore images using a boot CD. The implementation of the solution has been quite successful . the product has eliminated downtime during the backup process and can quickly and easily restore a down server.
